In college I learned that once they taught us what good design is, we would only notice bad design. Wherever I look I see design, and I’m definitely able to spot bad design. The result is that it makes me appreciate good design even more.
This blog serves as a place for me to record my design observations – for both the good and bad design that I spot in my world. It’s easy to be critical, but I’m a believer in providing solutions where I see a problem. So for each design violation that I discover, I plan to offer up my own design interpretation.
Design Police is not all about bad design rants, good design will be highlighted as well. I’m hoping that design dialogs will start by putting my solutions out there – who’s to say that I’ve come up with the best solution to the design violation? Do you have a better idea? Let’s see it! Design is completely subjective – so keep an open mind and feel free to share your opinions.
Design is a communication tool. Bad design does not help communication, and to me – communication is key.

When I came up with the idea for this site, http://design-police.org did not exist yet. Once I googled “design police” and the search resulted in their clever designs I thought about changing the name of this blog. But I feel that this blog has a different approach and there’s plenty room for LOTS of design police officers in the world.
